Eleventh Query
Witnessing in the World: Ministry of Outreach
- How does our meeting communicate Friends’ presence and principles to the wider community?
- How does our meeting join with other faith communities in worship, in spiritual dialogue and in social action?
- What are we doing to invite persons to attend our meetings for worship, to welcome them when they come, to listen sensitively to their needs and hesitations and to encourage their continued attendance?
- What opportunities have I taken to worship with people from other religious and cultural backgrounds and work with them on common concerns?
- How do I share my spiritual life and experience with others?
- Does my life as a Friend attract others to our religious society?

Vigil for Miguel
Kennett Friends Meeting hosted a vigil and letter writing event for Miguel on Saturday, October 24th. Miguel is a Kennett local who has been detained by ICE for over 400 days. We heard from Lucy, Miguel’s wife, and other friends, and advocates, and will also wrote postcards/letters to Miguel’s representatives. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success!

Kennett Friends’ first Sickle Street wedding
Mark Ungemach and Selina Toedter were delighted to welcome Sabine Janssen Margolis of Great Neck, NY and her family to the meetinghouse on October 18th. She and her family happened to stop by before Community Rising to see where her mother Karin was married in 1958. The pictures she showed us and some memories shared by her mother are below!
I had just arrived from Germany when Hermann and I decided to marry in the US vs returning home. We were the 1st couple to get married on Nov 2, 1958 after the total restoration/new building of the site. Somebody else was supposed to be the first couple in the newly restored building. They graciously let us get married first.
This was because Hermann had a new Job in LA waiting for him and we were under pressure to drive there on time. We said the marriage vows personally, as customary in the Society of Friends. Mrs. Dorothy Cooper spoke the Blessing and held a wonderful speech! She was the mother of Anne Leuiken. Anne and her Dutch husband Gerald were Hermann‘s Best Friends in West Chester and part of the Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock community, and Anne was very welcoming to me during my short stay in PA.

Thank you to Sabine, Karin, and the Margolis family for sharing this joyful story with us!
Election season reminders
Election season is in full swing! Here are some helpful resources:
- Chester County Voter Services has lists of candidates, calendars, information on ongoing legal challenges with mail-in ballots, and more
- Poll workers are ALWAYS needed! If your precinct is well staffed, they will ask to send you where you are most needed. Complete the form here to express your interest.
- Kennett Area Democrats have moved their offices to Church Alley. For those interested, they can always use more volunteers.
